A Brief Thought about Tattoos.

I realize I am behind on the curve on this one. Big surprise, but I am still puzzled by the fascination with and popularity of tattoos. Aside from Marines, soldiers, bikers, or Maori, whom I will give ground on the issue, if only for the fact that they can stomp a hole in me, why would anyone get inked? The only thought I can consider, aside from indicating that you are the property of your Daddy, is to show off your individuality and rebelliousness.

But how rebellious can you be when everyone, including executives (e.g., "The Man"), royalty, and middle aged folk are getting them?

And how individual are you when everyone else is doing the same thing? It is reminiscent of a scene from Monty Python's Life of Brian:

Brian: "You're all individuals!"
Crowd (in unison): "Yes, yes, we're all individuals!"

At this point, I figure if I go clean, I will be the only individual left.

At any rate, I am tempted to agree with Cyrano de Bergerac: "I wear my adornments on my soul."
